Collages

When I was studying art in college, we had a design project using collage and I was hooked. My very first painting sale was a collage and I have come back to the wonderful freedom it brings periodically. It helps me concentrate on design and limited color primarily in an abstract way.

In January of 2020, I broke my right hand and shortly after that, we entered into this pandemic that has created fear, anxiety and chaos in my world. I didn’t want to paint pretty landscapes, I wanted to rip and tear and do something physical with my art. So, instead of painting what I was feeling, I used handmade papers and worked with no idea in mind.

During the creation of these pieces, the subconscious started telling me where to go with each one. My dreamscapes were created from the inside out as well, and with the collages, I let the image appear without consciously planning it and have thoroughly enjoyed the process.
