Abstracts

My abstract paintings bring together two longtime currents in my work: a foundation in visual design and a deeply intuitive response to dreams, memory, and emotion.

I majored in visual design at Auburn, planning a career in advertising. That training continues to shape my painting, and design remains its backbone. Early on, whenever I lost sight of those essential elements in my landscapes, I returned to abstraction to reconnect with line, color, form, and composition. Over time, these paintings became meaningful in their own right - a freer way to explore ideas and feelings that do not need to be explained literally.

Many of these works also grow from my relationship with dreams. After attending Kanuga dream conferences and participating in a dream group for more than a decade, I began seeking a nonverbal way to engage with my dreams. What began as literal illustration gradually became a more passionate expression of their emotional landscape.

In the solitude of dreaming, recurring images, colors, and even numbers can offer insight into questions that otherwise remain unresolved. Painting them has been both healing and an honest expression of my inner consciousness.
